Lead Carpenter

Position Summary:
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for the successful execution of residential remodeling projects from start to finish. This role includes hands-on carpentry, daily jobsite leadership, and coordination with subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, and efficiently.
Working closely with the Project Manager, the Lead Carpenter organizes daily work, guides carpenters and trade partners, and ensures projects stay on schedule and aligned with plans and specifications.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) working on a variety of custom residential remodeling projects in the Ithaca area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day management and execution of assigned remodeling and construction projects, overseeing subcontractors and carpenters.
- Serve as the on-site liaison for Upscale Remodeling Corp., advocating for client needs.
- Review project scope, details, site conditions, and client expectations comprehensively.
- Delegate, assist with, and perform designated construction tasks as needed.
- Manage the work of team members and subcontractors, assigning tasks with clear timelines and expectations.
- Enforce company and industry safety guidelines for all team members and subcontractors.
- Provide regular updates to clients on work progress, schedule, cleanliness, and any changes.
- Provide regular job logs to Project Manager that note project progress and/or issues.
- Arrange necessary site services, such as dumpsters, portable toilets, etc.
- Address client questions and concerns promptly, aiming to have someone respond within 24 hours.
- Maintain a smoke-free work environment at all times.
Leadership:
- Lead by example.
- Be honest, humble, levelheaded, people-oriented, and quality-minded.
- Manage and direct team members and trade partners on the jobsite.
- Demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with fellow Lead Carpenters and your Project Manager on multiple projects, prioritizing departmental needs and maintaining flexibility with scheduling and staffing.
- Maintain and reinforce the company’s standards of professionalism among all team members and trade partners.
- Lead, supervise, direct, mentor, and teach other team members.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of eight (8) years of carpentry experience with expertise in all phases of residential remodeling and construction procedures.
- Proficient in rough carpentry, including floor, deck, wall, and roof framing, as well as layout knowledge of foundations, rafters, and stairs, and structural load-path understanding.
- Experienced in finish carpentry, including trim work, cabinetry installation, and interior finishes.
- Must have experience leading projects and teams.
- Familiarity with building codes and related trades, with a commitment to continuous learning to stay updated.
- Strong communication skills, able to effectively interact with clients, team members, vendors, and specialty trade contractors.
- Capable of both following direction and providing leadership, supervision, direction, mentoring, and teaching to other team members.
- Excellent listening and comprehension abilities, along with proficiency in understanding construction drawings, scopes of work, specifications, contracts, and business correspondence.
- Willingness to adapt to and embrace new technology, apps, and software relevant to the industry.
- Keen eye for quality and a strong sense of urgency to meet deadlines.
- Valid NYS driver’s license required.
