Yes. Older homes often need supply and drain lines updated, and moving a shower or vanity means relocating plumbing inside the floor or wall. We plan for that during design so it is in the budget rather than a surprise.
If you have another full bathroom, the work will not disrupt your routine much. If the bathroom we are remodeling is your only one, we talk through the sequence with you in advance so you know what to expect.
A full remodel typically covers demolition, any plumbing and electrical changes, waterproofing, tile, the vanity and countertop, fixtures, lighting, and finish work. We confirm exactly what is included in your proposal before anything starts.
We Want to Make Your Dream Bathroom a Reality
Bathrooms in older Ithaca-area homes present a specific set of challenges: tight footprints, inadequate ventilation, single vanities shared by multiple family members, and layouts that made sense in a different era. Most of the bathroom remodels we complete involve more than a cosmetic refresh. We routinely relocate plumbing to free up floor space, add or upgrade exhaust ventilation, and reconfigure layouts to accommodate a double vanity or a walk-in shower where a tub-shower combination used to be. The result is a bathroom that works better for the way you actually use it.
Material selection is where the character of a bathroom takes shape. In our Design Studio in Freeville, you can review tile samples, vanity configurations, countertop materials, and hardware finishes together in one visit — with a designer available to evaluate how each choice interacts with the others. The difference between a bathroom that feels cohesive and one that feels assembled is usually resolved at this stage, not during construction.
Bathrooms also require careful attention to what is happening behind the walls. Moisture intrusion, deteriorated subfloor material, and inadequate waterproofing are common findings once demolition begins — particularly in homes built before 1980. We address these conditions as part of the scope rather than treating them as surprises. Shower surrounds and wet areas are built with a waterproof membrane system, not just cement board, which extends the life of the finished surface considerably.
For primary bathrooms, we often work with homeowners to evaluate whether a modest expansion is worth including in the scope. In many cases, borrowing a few feet from an adjacent closet or hallway allows for a layout change that would otherwise be impossible — and the added cost is modest relative to what it enables. We walk through these options early in the design process so you can make an informed decision before anything is committed to drawings.
Most bathroom remodels we complete in the Ithaca area take between four and eight weeks from the start of construction, depending on scope and whether any structural or plumbing changes are involved. We handle all permitting, subcontractor coordination, and inspections directly.
